Nader Khaghani was born in Iran and has lived and worked in England and the USA for over 35 years. While working as a CPA, Nader discovered his true passion: Art and painting, which led to ten years of art instruction at the Art Institute of Chicago. He started painting almost 30 years ago. His work has been exhibited in group shows at Chicago galleries.

Pictures are painted twice - once
in the hands of the artist, and next
in the mind of the viewer.
In my hands, a picture is complete
when the colors and shapes totally embrace
in a wholly union.
When this unity is achieved,
the universal chord is played--to which
the picture sings and shapes, colors dance,
and the composition vibrates with the life energy.

You see, some colors can only be stated
in certain shapes, and conversely,
certain shapes
enhance certain colors.
That's my artistic quest - to play
matchmaker for shape and color, time and again –
an enigmatic game, by virtue of which
pictures do compose themselves.
Ergo, Painting is the process by which
the inert colors in the jars
acquire the dynamic shapes
buried deep in the smithy of the soul.
Imagination.

Also, for me, shapes feel right
when they are dynamic; they have integrity
and the right colors.
If this means having to repaint the picture 37 times,
let it be that –
a fresh integration of colors and shapes
numerous times until the universal chord is played –
then the color has acquired the “good” shape –
good in the platonic sense: the real,
the eternal
and the universal

This means I intuitively listen for the good
when shapes are wedded to the colors throughout the picture -
both dissonance and harmony,
cacophony and melodies.
If the composition sings and shapes and colors dance,
only then I know –
the painting sounds good,
and my task as an artist is now complete.
The picture is done, and can now be viewed.

Now, let the viewer hear the sound of music
inherent in my shapes and colors –
let the viewer find
the rhythmic dance of the colors and forms
contagious –
soul soothing.
